In the text, Gay is describing the different types of Feminists and how they are perceived. When people title themselves as a feminist most people think they are talking about the stereotypical Feminist that, hates men, don’t cater to the male gaze, and focuses on their career they are perceived totally different. This label holds so much power. Most people believe in the things feminist believe in but don’t label themselves as one. The actual label of being a feminist has such a different title than what it is actually described as. The act of being a “Bad feminist” doesn’t mean they aren’t advocating for what they believe in, but they aren’t fitting the title of which they are described to belong to.
